CIRD Workshop

The Village was recently selected to host a community design workshop as part of the Citizens' Institute on Rural Design (CIRD), a national program sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA)!

The small communities of rural America are facing a range of critical challenges. Included among these are loss of jobs and population, erosion of our agricultural lands and village centers to sprawl development, consequences of increased automobile dependency, unsustainable and costly development practices, to name a few. These problems affect the vitality of our communities, their physical design, and sense of place. The CIRD Workshop will focus on an important aspect of community spirit and integrity: the process of design.

The Workshop aims to help local residents of the region, decision makers, and organizations gain the tools, knowledge, and skills to address and implement solutions to these design challenges making our communities better places to live, work, and play. Specifically, for Lima Village, it will build upon their comprehensive plan update, adopted design guidelines, and 15A gateway corridor charrette plan, paving the way for the creation of a physical Vision Plan that will help to guide the future development of its built environment.

We invite you to attend this series of important events! Learn from and discuss with nationally recognized, experienced professional planning experts as they outline for the Village of Lima (as well as the region’s surrounding towns, villages, hamlets) land planning and financial techniques and strategies for the implementation of their comprehensive Vision Plans.
